SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse fell, 6-3, to third-ranked Northeastern Saturday at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange are now 0-5 on the season, while Northeastern improves to 3-0. Syracuse's five losses have all been against teams ranked in the top-10. In goal, Orange goalkeeper Allison Small followed her career night (36 saves) with 26 stops. The Orange return to the ice on Friday for an afternoon matchup against Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y.

"We ended up paying for our mistakes," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "In the first period we didn't clear the puck and the next thing you know it's in the back of the net, and obviously the tale of the tape is the power plays. Individual mistakes led into a lot of that. You have to manage your stick, but we'll regroup and look forward to Colgate."

How it Happened
The Orange took an early 1-0 lead when senior Kelli Rowswell scored an unassisted goal on a play right in front of the Northeastern goal 3:33 into the game. Less than two minutes later, the Huskies tied the game when Kate Holmes scored. Northeastern then took the lead, 2-1, on a power-play goal by Katy Knoll at the 8:12 mark of the first period. Senior captain Lindsay Eastwood then fired a shot in the 11th minute to bring the game to a 2-2 tie.

After Eastwood's goal, the Huskies took a 3-2 advantage following their second power-play goal. With less than two minutes left in the first period, Chloe Aurard slotted the puck in thanks to the help of Alina Mueller and Mia Brown.

Both teams scored in the second period. The Orange tied the game 3-3 when Lauren Bellefontaine found the back of the net less than a minute into the period on an assist from Abby Moloughney. The effort wasn't enough though as Mueller gave Northeastern the lead for good, scoring her second point of the game on a goal at the 4:45 mark in the period to put the Huskies ahead, 4-3.

Northeastern added insurance goals with back-to-back tallies in the first nine minutes of the third period, expanding their lead to 6-3 lead. Aurard and Matti Hartman netted the goals.

Syracuse will play in-state foe Colgate next weekend. The teams will face off in Hamilton on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. and then play the second game of the series in Syracuse at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
