CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- #13 Boston College (9-5, 3-1 ACC) broke a 1-1 tie with a fourth-quarter goal and held on to beat #15 Syracuse (8-5, 1-3 ACC), 2-1, on Friday night.
Following two quarters of scoreless hockey, the host Eagles got on the board first. Margo Carlin tallied off an assist from Jaime Natale in the 39th minute for a 1-0 advantage. Syracuse answered late in the third period when junior Claire Cooke carried the ball into the circle and scored on a goal set up by an assist from junior Sarah Luby. It was Cooke's third tally of the campaign.
With three minutes left to play in regulation, the Eagles found the back of the net on a shot by Margo Carlin, assisted by Brigid Wood, that put Boston College back in front.
Boston College edged Syracuse in shots, 9-6 and shots on goal, 5-2. Each club had two penalty corners.
Syracuse faces a second straight road contest at a ranked foe when it plays #4 Connecticut in Storrs, Conn., on Sunday, October 20, at 1 p.m. The next Orange home game is on Friday, October 25, at 7 p.m.
