SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs are set to begin on Saturday, Oct. 19 and several former Syracuse men's soccer players are in the mix.
Â
Miles Robinson and Mo Adams both play for defending champion Atlanta United. Robinson has started 33 matches this season and is a finalist for the league's Defender of the Year award. He earned his first cap with the U.S. national team in September, but missed this week's match against Canada because of injury. His status for the playoffs is day-to-day. Since being traded to Atlanta from the Chicago Fire, Adams has scored one goal in four matches.
Â
The No. 2 seed Atlanta United will face the No. 7 seed New England Revolution and Tajon Buchanan in the first round. Buchanan was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft after signing a Generation adidas contract after his sophomore season with the Orange. He has played in 10 matches, making four starts, and has two assists.
Â
Baldwinsville, N.Y. native Alex Bono is a goalkeeper for Toronto FC. Toronto is the fourth seed in the Eastern conference and will face fifth-seeded D.C. United in the first round. Bono has played in seven matches this season, with four wins, two ties, and a loss.
Â
In addition, Kamal Miller completed his first season with Orlando FC, which did not qualify for the playoffs. The defender played in 16 matches after being drafted with the 27th overall pick in 2019. Miller also earned his first cap for Canada in June and helped the squad defeat the U.S., 2-0, this past Tuesday.
Â
While the MLS playoffs start Saturday, the current Orange take on No. 8 Clemson at the SU Soccer Stadium the same day at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra. Admission and parking are free.
