
Ten Things to Know before Tonight’s NCAA Second Round

Syracuse, N.Y. – The 12th-ranked Syracuse Orange women's basketball team has a chance to reach the Sweet 16 for the second time in four years on Monday night. Syracuse and South Dakota State tip off at 7:05 pm on ESPN in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
Here are 10 things to know before tip-off:
10 – In their last 10 games, the Orange are 8-2 with their only two losses being to defending national champion Notre Dame.
9 – Nine Orange players were on last year's team that received a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse was an eight seed and lost to nine-seed Oklahoma State in the first round.
8 – Eight Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams made the NCAA Tournament this year. Four remain entering Monday's second-round match ups, including Louisville, which has already punched its ticket to the Sweet 16. NC State and Notre Dame also play on Monday night.
7 – Tiana Mangakahia needs seven assists to tie, eight to break, the record for career assists at Syracuse. Alexis Peterson '17 currently holds the record with 590.
6 – In the last six years, the Orange have won nine NCAA tournament games. Prior to the 2014 season, Syracuse was 0-5 in the NCAA Tournament.
5 – Syracuse has recorded five wins versus ranked opponents this season, including wins over No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 16 DePaul, No. 25 Virginia Tech, No. 22 Florida State, and No. 16 Miami in the ACC Tournament.
