RALEIGH, N.C. – The Syracuse softball team won its second-consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference series defeating NC State (21-18, 3-9 ACC), 5-3, Sunday afternoon.
Syracuse (17-20, 6-6 ACC) won the opening game of the series Saturday, 5-2, in the first game of a doubleheader before the Wolfpack evened the series with a 7-2 win that set up the Sunday rubber match.
Gabby Teran led the Orange at the plate Sunday with a 3-for-4 performance including two runs scored. Alex Acevedo capped off an impressive weekend going 1-for-2 with one run scored, one RBI and two walks in the final game of the series. In the series, Acevedo had four hits, three runs scored, an RBI and four walks.
Alexa Romero pitched her second double-digit strikeout game in just as many days. The lefty struck out 10 in her 12th complete game of the season. Romero (11-5) allowed three runs on five hits with two walks.
Teran continued to show her consistency in the leadoff spot with a single through the left side. Teran took advantage of a pair of NC State miscues that included a wild pitch and a pass ball to score the first run of the game an give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
NC State's only lead of the game came in the bottom of the frame with a pair of solo home runs that put them ahead 2-1. Syracuse fired back, tying the game, 2-2, in the top of third on back-to-back singles from Alicia Hansen and Acevedo.
The Orange continued to take advantage of NC State's misfortunes as they grabbed the go ahead lead in the fifth. Hansen opened the inning with a single to center field before Toni Martin took a ball to the shin that put her on first base. Acevedo drew a walk, loading the bases and setting up an RBI-single from Alexis Kaiser. The Wolfpack's fourth wild pitch of the game allowed Syracuse to take the two-run, 4-2, advantage. Syracuse added an insurance run in the sixth with a sac fly from Hansen.
After Romero retired nine straight batters, dating back to the bottom of the third, Brigette Nordberg led off the sixth inning with a walk. A fielders' choice and hit by pitch left runners on first and second before a single up the middle scored the last run for NC State. The Wolfpack wouldn't be able to piece together any more offensive production, despite a leadoff single in the seventh.

Syracuse returns home for a five-game homestand beginning on April 10 with a doubleheader against Siena. The Orange then welcome ACC opponent Duke, April 12-14, to Skytop Stadium for the first meeting between the two programs. All games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
