Syracuse, N.Y. – Nina Watson, a 5-foot-7 universal player, is the final piece of the 2019 incoming Syracuse field hockey class. Watson, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, attended Lord Byng Secondary School where she was a two-sport athlete, playing field hockey and running track.
On the international stage, Watson helped Team BC to a 2018 Canadian National Championship, a silver finish in 2016 as a member of the U15 team, and a third-place finish in 2015.
She guided her club team, the Vancouver Hawks, to back-to-back Vancouver Field Hockey Club Championships in 2017 and 2018 and was a member of the 2016 Vancouver Field Hockey Club that won the title on the U15 circuit.
Watson was a two-time team MVP and was named the 2019 Superior Achievement in Sport winner for her district.
She chose Syracuse because of the world-class field hockey program and facilities.
"I think it [Syracuse] offers me the best opportunity to grow and develop as a player while earning my degree," Watson said. "I also like the fact that the roster is international so I will be able to learn from my U.S., Dutch and German teammates."
Watson plans to study business in Syracuse's Whitman School of Management.
