SYRACUSE, N.Y. — On the heels of the first conference title in program history, and subsequently the program's first appearance in the NCAA tournament, the Syracuse women's ice hockey team will look to continue reaching new heights in the 2019-20 season. The Orange begin their College Hockey America title defense in a few short months as 'Cuse opens the season at home on Sept. 27 against 2018 National Champion Clarkson.
Â
Syracuse is scheduled to play 17 home games at the Tennity Ice Pavilion and 17 games on the road this year. The Orange will compete against five 2019 NCAA Tournament teams in Clarkson, Boston College, Northeastern, Princeton, and Cornell. Additionally, the 2018-19 slate includes 20 CHA conference matchups—10 home, 10 away—beginning on Nov. 1 with a home and away series against RIT. 'Cuse concludes CHA play in the final weekend of February with a two-game series against Robert Morris.
Â
The 2019-20 CHA Tournament is slated to begin on Thursday, March 5 and run to Saturday, March 7, with the winner of the tournament receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
The 2019-20 team returns 17 letterwinners from last season, including All-Conference honorees Abby Moloughney (All-CHA Rookie Team), Emma Polaski (All-CHA Second Team), and Lauren Bellefontaine (CHA Rookie of the Year), along with primary backup goaltender Ady Cohen. The trio of forwards combined for 63 points (28 goals, 35 assists) in 38 games. Cohen played 13 games last season, stopping 292 pucks (.893) while allowing 35 goals (2.75 per game) over 763 minutes.
