PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Syracuse women's soccer team lost, 2-0, to Rutgers tonight in Piscataway, N.J. in the final exhibition of the 2019 preseason. With the preseason out of the way, the Orange will prepare to play Colgate in the Aug. 25 season opener at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission and parking for the game are free.
Â
The Scarlet Knights took the lead early, scoring both of their goals in the first 45 minutes thanks to senior Brittany LaPlant and freshman Regan Berg. Head coach Nicky Adams wasn't phased by the loss, noting her side's continued growth and improvement heading into the regular season.
Â
"The vast improvement that I saw in just a week from the Albany game was very good," Adams said. "We were much sharper in our individual defending and overall as a team. We had some good attacking opportunities but just let ourselves down in the final third with some poor decision making. This team fought extremely hard the entire game and I am really happy with the players' attitudes and work ethic, they'll continue to get better. It was great to play two quality sides for exhibition matches and I'm looking forward to our home opener against Colgate."
Â
The 'Cuse opens the regular season in nine days when Colgate comes to town. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium, and admission and parking are free. Fans unable to make it out to the game will be able to watch the contest live on the ACC Network. Fans unsure if their provider will carry ACCN are strongly encouraged to visit GetACCN.com and check. If your provider does not carry ACCN, we encourage you to contact them and demand they get ACCN.
