SYRACUSE — The Syracuse women's soccer team opens the 2019 regular season Sunday, Aug. 25 with a home contest against Colgate at the SU Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., parking and admission are free. The first 150 fans who enter the stadium will get a Let's Go Orange t-shirt, and posters will also be available. The match will also be streamed live on the ACC Network, and online via Watch ESPN here. If your provider does not carry the ACC Network, you will not be able to watch or stream the match.
"Colgate's a huge game. It's the first game of the season, it's a New York school, and we're kicking off the ACC Network against them," first year head coach Nicky Adams said. "Colgate is a solid team that is very well-coached so we're definitely going to have to be on our best."
Â
The Orange's game plan for the opening contest is to stay focused and take things one step at a time, a point that Adams has been reinforcing ever since the team reported for camp in early August.
Â
"I keep reminding our kids that we can't worry about anything that's happened in the past, it doesn't matter. We just need to focus one day at a time," Adams said. "When Colgate is here, all we're thinking about is 'How do I prepare myself and setup my teammates for success?' That's what we've been focusing on in this preseason, helping out our teammates to set us up for the best opportunities to score goals. It's going to be a tough game but I'm glad we're going to be at home on the new pitch for it."

Enter the Thrasher Adams era
There's a noticeable excitement in the air this year for Syracuse women's soccer; for the first time in a decade, the Orange will begin the season with a new coach at the helm. 'Cuse will look to two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year Nicky Adams to lead them to success. Adams joins the Orange after a 15-year career at Rice University where she started as an assistant coach, before advancing up the ranks to take over as head coach from 2010-18. Adams coached Rice to an 87-55-23 overall record and a 57-25-11 mark in C-USA contests in her tenure.Â
Â
The El Paso, Texas native played four seasons as a forward for Texas A&M (1997-01) where she featured on the 1997 Big 12 championship squad, was the 1998 Big 12 tournament MVP, and was selected first team All-Big 12 in 1999. For her accolades, Adams was inducted into Texas A&M's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.
Â
Scouting Colgate
The Raiders played to a 11-4-3 (7-1-1 Patriot League) record last season that culminated in a first round loss to Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament. Colgate ended the season with the third-most goals in the conference, averaging 1.39 per outing while giving up just 10 themselves, a league best.
Â
Colgate returns all 11 of its starters from 2018, including Patriot League Midfielder of the Year Mara Cosentino and Goalkeeper of the Year Kelly Chiavaro. Cosentino and Chiavaro lead Colgate's seven seniors for the 2019 squad.
Â
Returning Orange
The Orange return 19 letterwinners to the team this season, including 10 starting field players and a seasoned shot-stopper in junior Lysianne Proulx.
Â
New Kids on the Block
The Orange add six freshmen to the roster this year, along with 'Cuse volleyball standout and 2018 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American Santita Ebangwese. Newcomers entering the fold this season include Michaela Walsh, Alexandra Panaggio, Gianna Villoresi, Kailey Brenner, Teri Jackson, and Alex Steigelfest. The group of six collectively represent New York state, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and California.

Â
Fans unable to make it out to the game will be able to watch the contest live on the ACC Network, but only if your provider carries the network.
