Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse all-time leading scorer and current Chicago Sky (WNBA) center Kayla Alexander released The Magic of Basketball, a children's book she illustrated and co-authored with her sister, Kesia Alexander, on Friday, Aug. 30.
"I love the game of basketball, I love art, illustrating and being creative," said Alexander. "I love working with, inspiring and motivating kids, which is a big part of why I got my degree in education. I was looking for ways I could combine all my passions into one, hence my new book."
Alexander scored 2,024 points in her collegiate career at Syracuse and ranks in the top-5 in career points, scoring average, field goals made, rebounds, blocks and games played at Syracuse. She was the third player in program history to earn all-America honors in 2013 after scoring 577 points and grabbing 277 rebounds while leading the Orange to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008.
"If you pay close attention while reading the book, you'll recognize a Syracuse building that I just had to add to the book," Alexander said. "After all, Syracuse was a big part of my basketball journey and I am proud to be an Orange alumna."
Selected eighth overall by the San Antonio Stars in the 2013 WNBA Draft, Alexander is currently playing in her seventh season in the WNBA. She played for the Stars from 2013-17 and spent last season with the Indiana Fever. Alexander is a member of the Canadian Senior National Team and hopes to play for Canada in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Magic of Basketball is now available on Amazon in paperback and for download as an eBook on Kindle.
