SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse tennis is back.

The Orange begin their spring campaign this weekend with a pair of matches in Richmond, Va. Syracuse takes on Richmond Sunday at 4 p.m. before facing off against VCU Monday at noon. Both matches will take place in VCU's Thalhimer Tennis Center. Syracuse is on a five-match winning streak in season openers—its last season-opening defeat a 4-3 loss to No. 59 South Florida in 2014.

WHAT'S NEW
The Orange start the spring following an extremely successful fall season that culminated in 'Cuse earning four Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. Senior Guzal Yusupova was the highest ranked Orange at No. 64 in singles, followed by senior Miranda Ramirez (No. 80) and junior Sofya Golubovskaya (No. 111). The sophomore/freshman pairing of Sofya Treshcheva and Kim Hansen earned the No. 48 doubles ranking.

Ramirez earned All-ACC Third Team for the 2018-2019 season and finished with a team-best 18-8 singles record and a 14-11 record in doubles play.

The Orange welcome three newcomers to this year's roster in Zeynep Erman, Kim Hansen, and Polina Kozyreva. Hansen finished fall play with an 11-3 record overall.

SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
Richmond opens its season on Saturday against Penn in Philadelphia before playing 'Cuse on Sunday. The Spiders are led by head coach Mark Wesselink, who is in his 29th year at the helm. Wesselink led the Spiders to the Atlantic 10 (A-10) Conference Championship final last season where Richmond was swept, 4-0, by No. 1 seed VCU.

The Spiders return a trio of 2019 A10 All-Conference honorees in Emily Dunbar, Kiana Marshall and Dessi Zlateva. Dunbar picked up her second-straight first team All-A-10 selection and Marshall joined her with her second first team All-A-10 honor last season. Zlateva earned second team All-Conference for the second time in her career, previously earning the honor in 2017.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
VCU begins its season Sunday against Temple. The Rams are led by ITA first team All-American Paola Delgado who finished the fall season ranked No. 97 in singles play.

The Rams went 18-6 last year and were a perfect 4-0 mark in A-10 play. Their season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after a 4-1 loss to NC State.

WHAT'S AHEAD
The Orange's first home contest is Jan. 26 against Cornell, with the action starting at 11 a.m. 'Cuse then stays put in Syracuse for the entire month of February. All home matches are played at Drumlins.
