
Orange Recruiting Class Ranked No. 12 Nationally

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head men's soccer coach welcomes the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation, according to College Soccer News. The group includes eight freshmen and seven transfers.

Three of the transfers are graduate students. Matt McDonnell was a 2019 second-team All-Patriot League selection at Boston University, while Max Kent earned United Soccer Coaches All-North Region honors twice at Macalester College. In addition, Tim Ekpone played the past two years at Pittsburgh after redshirting during his freshman year at Kentucky.

Roque Viegas comes to Syracuse from Monroe College where he scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists for the 2019 NJCAA Division I national champions. Manel Busquets earned All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors last season at Duquesne, while Abdi Salim was the 2019 SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year as well as the Rookie of the Year at Buffalo State. In addition, Russell Shealy started five matches and recorded two shutouts last season at Maryland.

The Orange posted an 8-7-5 record in 2019 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the second round.
