Five Syracuse field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Mideast Region First Team on Monday afternoon. It marks the first time since 2012 that the Orange had five first-team selections and it was the most out of any team in the region. The next closest was Penn State with three first-team players.
Quirine Comans, Charlotte de Vries, Carolin Hoffmann, Pleun Lammers and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof all represent Syracuse University and are now eligibile for All-America honors.Â
Comans played in all 20 games for the Orange making 18 starts. She had a team-high 27 points with nine goals and nine assists this season including two game-winning goals. The first-year grad student earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) accolades after guiding the Orange to a 4-2 record in league play.Â
De Vries earns All-Region First Team honors for the third time in her career. The junior striker had six goals and three assists this season for Syracuse. De Vries is a two-time NFHCA All-American and started in all 18 games she played in for the Orange after missing the first two while playing with the U.S. U22 Team at the Junior Pan American Championships in late August where she was named the top scorer.Â
Hoffmann earns NFHCA All-Region First Team honors for the third time in her career at SU. She scored two goals and added a pair of assists while her play in the midfield helped guide the Orange to their first NCAA Quarterfinal appearance since 2016. Hoffmann earned All-ACC honors, was named to the All-ACC Tournament Team and was named to the NFHCA Senior Team last week.
Lammers led the team in scoring with eight goals and four assists through the first 11 games of the season before missing the final 11 games due to injury. In that time she earned ACC Player of the Week honors once and was named All-ACC First Team at the end of the regular season.
Van den Nieuwenhof played and started all 20 games for Syracuse. She led the team in scoring with 11 goals and added two assists for 24 points, which ranked second on the team. She earned All-ACC First Team honors and was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.
Syracuse finished the season 14-6 overall and 4-2 in the ACC. They reached the NCAA Elite Eight for the 10th time in program history and first since 2016 as the only ACC team to make the quarterfinals.
Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on November 29, they will be followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on December 14 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 16.
