As the Syracuse Orange prepare to host Monmouth in the Carrier Dome on Wednesday, Nov. 10 (7 pm., ACCNX), we begin our Q&A series to help you get to know your Orange! In this edition we talk with freshman Nyah Wilson.Â
1. What was your first impression of Syracuse when you came to visit? What made Syracuse feel like the right fit for you?Â
My first impression of Syracuse was eye opening. Experiencing a different culture outside of my own in Texas. It felt like the right fit for me because I'm all about family and sisterhood. Both of those things felt very automatic once I stepped foot on the SU campus.Â
2. What is your favorite part of college so far? What has been the hardest adjustment?Â
My favorite part of college thus far is probably just getting to spend that extra time outside of practice with my teammates. I enjoy their company, and I really love them all equally. Although, the hardest adjustment has been the time change being in eastern time now and an hour ahead of Texas. Early morning practice and then coping with school stuff as well have taken some time to adjust to.Â
3. How old were you when you began playing basketball and who or what inspired you to start playing?Â
I started playing basketball at the age of three. I was always going and watching my two older twin sisters play so I was in the gym at a young age. I would say my sisters are my biggest impact as to why I play the game now.Â
4. Would you rather hit a buzzer beater to win the game or get a stop on defense to secure the win? Why?Â
I would rather get a stop on defense to secure the win. I am a defensive player and take pride in it. Also, defense WINS games.Â
5. What are you looking forward to most in your college experience?Â
I am looking forward to just kicking off the season with my teammates.Â
6. What was your favorite team activity over the summer? What made it so special?Â
My favorite team activity was doing the escape room. I just enjoyed it. Although it was challenging, we found a way to come together and conquer the primary goal to find clues and escape, while also making it enjoyable and fun.Â
7. Who is your favorite athlete and why?Â
Allen Iverson is my favorite athlete because he is an all-around player. He played defense and was a point guard. He took that responsible role of being a play maker and found his own rhythm to his game. He is a dog and settled for nothing less on the court.Â
8. If you could build a house anywhere in the world and money was no cost, where would you build it?Â
I would probably build a house in California. I just like the view and atmosphere there.Â
9. What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is Schine (Student Center). I like to eat there and chill with my teammates every day before or after class.Â
10. What is your favorite meal to eat before a game?
HANDS DOWN, Chick-fil-A. No question about it!Â
