This Week In Syracuse Softball: Orange Head to Garnet/Gold Classic

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Syracuse (2-2, ACC 2-2) will travel to Rock Hill, S.C., for the Garnet/Gold Classic hosted by Winthrop on Saturday and Sunday. The Orange will play four games, one each against Saint Francis, Winthrop, College of Charleston and UIC.
'Cuse opened it season last week at the ACC Pod hosted by UNC where the Orange went 2-2 including a 4-3 win over Notre Dame who was receiving votes.
Saint Francis is 3-1 this season. Sunday's 10 a.m. game will be the first ever meeting between the Orange and Red Flash.
Following the morning game against SFU Syracuse takes on host Winthrop at 12:15 p.m. The Eagles (5-4) enter the Garnet/Gold Classic on a two-game win streak. Winthrop is led by Big South Pitcher of the Week Madyson Watson who boasts a 3.21 ERA this season in seven appearances. 'Cuse leads the all-time series 2-0.
Sunday morning Syracuse and the College of Charleston (0-4) play at 10 a.m. The Cougars are led by junior Jenna Helberg who is hitting .385 with 5 hits and a run batted in through the first four games. Syracuse is 3-1 all-time against the College of Charleston.
UIC begins its season on Friday vs. Albany at the Garnet and Gold Classic. The Flames and Orange face off in Syracuse's last game of the weekend on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. In the only previous meeting between UIC and Syracuse (Feb. 6, 2015), the Orange won 10-1.
