
Orange Lose in Extra Innings, Game Two Canceled

The Syracuse softball team (2-3, 2-2 ACC) lost 6-3 to Saint Francis in eight innings on Friday morning in the Orange's first game of the Garnet/Gold Classic hosted by Winthrop. 'Cuse was scheduled to play the host Eagles at 12:30 p.m. but due to inclement weather the remainder of the Friday schedule was canceled and the game between Syracuse and Winthrop will not be made up. 
A infield RBI single by Gabby Terran in the bottom of the third inning plated Calista Almer for a 1-0 Syracuse lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Saint Francis took a 2-1 lead when Tayven Rousseau hit a two-run home run. The Orange answered in the bottom of the inning on a fielder's choice by Geana Torres to score Angel Jasso. Jasso led off the inning with a double to right center field and advanced on a sacrifice by Toni Martin.Â
Syracuse went to the bullpen with a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh and Kaia Oliver worked her way out of the jam getting Rachel Marsden to foul out. In the top of the eighth SFU plated four runs on two hits and an error to lead 6-2.
Almer advanced to third on a wild pitch to start the bottom of the eighth inning and scored on a Jamie Gregg RBI groundout to make it 6-4. Syracuse was unable to complete the comeback leaving Terran, who reached on an error, on base.Â
Alexa Romero threw 6.2 inning allowing two runs on three hits with a season-high 12 strikeouts. Oliver was tabbed with the loss in one and a third innings of work allowing four runs on two hit while striking out one batter.Â
Syracuse returns to action for day two of the Garnet/Gold Classic Saturday at 10 a.m. against the College of Charleston. Following that game the Orange face off with the Flames of UIC at 12:30 p.m. Fans can follow live stats for both games.Â
