Field hockey is back in action this weekend!
Syracuse will travel to Philadelphia for two games against Saint Joseph's. The first matchup will be a scrimmage on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the two teams meeiting for a regulation contest the day later at the same time. Both teams are looking to begin their 2021 spring season.Â
This is the Hawks' first contest of the year in total, while the Orange look to begin their spring season after a 5-4 (3-2 ACC) start to the year through the fall. Syracuse's duo Charlotte de Vries and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof were selected to the 2020 ACC Championship All-Tournament Team, after the Orange reached the ACC Tournament semifinals.Â
The Hawks finished their 2019 season 17-4 overall and 8-0 in A10, winning the Atlantic 10 Title for the third consecutive time. SJU then fell to Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.Â
This will be the third meeting in program history between the Orange and the Hawks (tied in all-time series 1-1), dating back in 2018 where the Hawks snagged the win.Â
As of March 1, 2021 spectators will be permitted at outdoor Athletics contests at Saint Joseph's University. Â All guests are required to wear masks, physical distancing must be practiced, any/all group gatherings are prohibited, and SJU indoor facilities are not available.
