Romero Goes the Distance in 1-0 Win

Alexa Romero threw her second complete game of the weekend going seven innings allowing just one hit, in Sunday's 1-0 win at Virginia. The victory secures the series win (3-1) for Syracuse and improves the Orange record to 18-16 overall and 11-13 in the ACC.Â
Romero went head to head with a quartet of Cavalier pitchers in the win, whom combined to allow just two Syracuse hits. Virginia's starting pitcher Aly Rayle (3-7) was credited the loss allowing the only run of the game, am RBI double by Lailoni Mayfield in the top of the second.Â
Toni Martin drew a walk with one out to give the Orange their first base runner of the day in the second. She stole second to put herself in scoring position with Mayfield at the plate and scored when Mayfield took a 3-2 pitch to right center field to make it 1-0 'Cuse.Â
Lindsey Boggs would be the only Cavalier to reach base with a single up the middle in the bottom of the third inning.Â
Romero finished the day with four strikeouts and zero walks to win her seventh game of the season.Â
Syracuse returns to action with a mid-week double header at Albany on Tuesday, April 27 at 2 and 4 p.m.Â
