The Syracuse field hockey team finished the 2020-21 season 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and is ranked No. 11 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Orange ranked in the top-11 all seven weeks of the poll which began on March 16. There was no weekly poll during the fall season as the ACC was the only league competing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
The Orange season concluded with a 4-3 overtime loss to No. 1 North Carolina on April 18 at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Syracuse was not one of three teams to earn an at-large bid to this year's NCAA Tournament which field was cut to 12 teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nine conferences earned automatic bids. UNC captured the ACC's spot after a 3-2 double overtime win against Wake Forest for the ACC's bid.Â
Syracuse reached the semifinals of the ACC Tournament in the fall season where they lost, 4-3, in overtime to the then 6-1 Tar Heels. Syracuse also handed Louisville its first loss of the season on Oct. 30, 2020 and swept Duke in all three meetings during the 2020-21 season.Â
The Orange had four players earn All-ACC accolades with Charlotte de Vries and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof making the first team and Laura Graziosi and Pleun Lammers getting second team recognition.Â
