Q&A with Cara Quimby
4/9/2021 11:24:00 AM | Women's Lacrosse
As we prepare for more ACC play against University of Virginia in the Carrier Dome on Saturday, April 9th (11 AM., ACC Network)  we continue our Q&A series to help you get to know the Orange with Cara Quimby.
What went into your decision to come back to Syracuse for a sixth season?
"From the moment we found out that the (2020) season was done it was kind of a no brainer. We have a really special group of upperclassmen, seniors, fifth-years, and now sixth-years. We've been doing this for so long, there was just so much unfinished business. I have plans to go to law school but anything to be back with this team and get a chance at winning a national championship is worth it."
Â
What area of law do you want to practice?
"I'm not entirely sure but if possible, I'd love to stay involved in sports in some capacity, whether that be sports law or involving law with some type of athletics would be great. I'm not exactly sure what I want to do but I'm excited to start the process and see what I'm interested in and go from there."
Â
How old were you when you started playing lacrosse and did you play any other sports growing up?
"I was in fourth grade when I first picked up a stick – a pink and purple little stick. I played soccer and field hockey throughout high school. My senior year I made the choice to just focus on lacrosse and try to improve as much as I could in the time before entering college. I knew that high school to college is a huge transition, the game is so much faster and a lot more is expected of you. I just wanted to be as prepared as possible, so I set the other sports aside and just focused solely on lacrosse."
Â
What made you decide to come to Syracuse?
"The coaching staff is amazing, super welcoming, and talking to all the alumni and how much of a family atmosphere it felt like was the most attractive part for me. Obviously, it's away from home and just having 50 sisters, you couldn't ask for more and everybody is supportive on and off the field. I've built some bonds that I know I'll carry forever and I'm super grateful for that."Â
Â
Of your teammates, who would you say is the best dressed?
"That's a tough one. Everyone has such different styles. I think a lot of people dress nice. Meg Carney dresses fine, Asa (Goldstock), Ella (Simkins), Morgan Alexander, she's a fashionista."
Â
Who is your funniest teammate?
"Lately, I'd have to say Sam Swart. She's really been making me laugh and she's a joy to be around."
Â
Go-to road trip bus snack?
"I tend to go for the candy that we have after dinner if it's a Reese's cup, a KitKat, sour gummies."
Â
Favorite bus movie and what makes a good busy movie?
"The classics. There's a lot of them that we watch. I really like National Treasure, that's one that everybody jokes around about. A good bus movie is one that makes us all laugh, light-hearted, makes the time go by, makes you relax and then when it's time to get into game-mode everybody refocuses and resets. It's nice to have time to bond with each other and enjoy conversations in the space, especially in such a frantic and crazy year it's been nice that that is the time we all spend together." Â
