Thirteen 'Cuse runners will take to the track this week at the NCAA East Preliminary, looking to punch their tickets to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships:

Men's 1500-meter run – Simon Smith – Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Simon Smith will start the meet for 'Cuse, when he races on Wednesday night in the first round of the 1500.
Smith is coming off an 11th-place finish at the ACC Championships at the event, where he turned in a PR in the semifinals with a time of 3:44.06, which was his qualifying seed time. Notre Dame junior Yared Nuguse is the favorite in the race based on time (3:34.68).
The first round features five heats, with the top-four finishers from each heat advancing to the quarterfinals, plus the next-four fastest times overall. The quarterfinals will be on Friday night.
Men's 10,000-meters – JP Trojan, Joe Dragon, Matthew Scrape, Dominic Hockenbury, Silas Derfel – Wednesday at 9:10 p.m.
Syracuse has five of the 48 semifinalists in the men's 10k, the most of any school.
JP Trojan (28:55.00) has the fastest seed time among Syracuse competitors, which is good for 13th in the east. Trojan is coming off a runner-up performance at the ACC Championships, while Joe Dragon was fifth.
Dragon is Syracuse's next-fastest competitor based on time. He owns the 27th-best seed time in the east at 29:12.44. Cincinnati's Aaron Bienenfeld has the best time in the region to date at 28:10.95.
12 runners out of the 48-man field will advance to Eugene from the race.
Women's 400-meter hurdles – Shaleah Colaire – Thursday at 8:20 p.m.
Colaire was a late addition to the NCAA East Prelims in the 400-meter hurdles. The Orange freshman is headed to her first NCAA event.
The top-three from each of the six heats heat, plus the next-six fastest times advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Women's 10,000-meters – Amanda Vestri, Annie Heffernan, Jordan Jacob, Abigail Spiers – Thursday at 9:10 p.m.
Amanda Vestri enters as one of the meet's favorites, owning the second fastest seed time in the east and the fifth-fastest time overall with her April time of 32:43.15 at the Virginia Challenge.
Annie Heffernan is the seventh-fastest in the race at 33:25.55 as well. Jordan Jacob and Abigail Spiers are seeded 29th and 47th, respectively.
Alabama's Mercy Chelangat is the top seed in the race in 32:13.13.
12 runners out of the 48-woman field will advance to Eugene from the race.
Men's 3000-meter steeplechase – Aidan Tooker – Friday at 6:10 p.m.
Aidan Tooker will represent 'Cuse in the men's steeplechase quarterfinal. His seed time is 8:50.39, while Virginia Tech's Fitsum Seyoum is the top seed from the east in 8:31.23.
Tooker was fourth in the event at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in 2018 and missed the 2019 championships due to injury.
The top-three times from each of the three heats, plus the next-three fastest times will advance to Eugene.
Women's 3000-meter steeplechase – Justus Holden-Betts – Saturday at 6:10 p.m.
Justus Holden-Betts will race in her first NCAA track event on Saturday.
She was 14th in the event at the ACC Championships. Her qualifying time of 10:21.78 came in that race.
Auburn's Joyce Kimeli is the top seed in the region, with a time of 9:37.97 this season.
The top-three times from each of the three heats, plus the next-three fastest times will advance to Eugene.
