#11 Clemson Edges Syracuse in Series Opener

Syracuse lost its series opener, 4-2, to #11 Clemson at Skytop Softball Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Orange (19-21 overall, 11-18 ACC) will continue the four-game Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) series against the Tigers with a double header on Saturday, May 8. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on ACCNX through the ESPN app.

Syracuse took an early 1-0 lead when Neli Casares-Maher launched a solo home run to right center field in the bottom of the first inning.

Alexa Romero (7-9) threw her eighth complete game of the season in the circle for the Orange and held the Tigers hitless through the first two innings. She struck out eight batters in the loss and walked five batters.

The Tigers (38-4 overall, 27-4 ACC) scored two runs off three hits in the top of the third to go ahead 2-1. In the bottom half of the inning, Paris Woods led off with a home run to center field to tie the game. Â

Clemson responded with one run in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh to secure the 4-2 victory. The Orange left a runner aboard in each of the final three innings and were unable to come back against the nationally-ranked Tigers.
