
Taylor To Row in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Sea Forest Waterway rowing venue will have an orange hue with former 'Cuse rower Hattie Taylor '17 competing in the Great Britain women's four.

Taylor becomes the sixth Syracuse University women's rower to make an Olympic team. Natalie Mastracci '13 rowed in the eight with coxswain in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games, winning a silver medal in 2012 in London. Anna Goodale '05 won a golf medal as a member of the United States eight with coxswain at the 2008 Beijing Games. The Orange Olympian list also includes Tracy Rude Smith '90 (United States, 1992 Barcelona Games), Helen Tanger '01 (Netherlands, 2004 Athens Games and 2008 Beijing Games – silver medal), and Froujke Wegman '01 (Netherlands, 2004 Athens Games).

As a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team, Taylor has won two World Championships, two European Championships and five World Cups. After initially qualifying for the Olympic team in 2020, Taylor had to re-qualify for the team when the 2020 Olympic Games were delayed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Syracuse, Taylor was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team selection. She earned medals at the ACC Championships, the O'Leary Cup and the Clemson Invitational. She competed for the Orange from 2014-2017.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games rowing competition begins on Friday, July 23rd and concludes Saturday, July 30th. The women's four heats are scheduled for Saturday, July 24th with the finals set for Wednesday, July 28th.
