Four members of the Syracuse women's soccer team have been selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Academic Team, according to a league announcement on Wednesday.
Senior defender Shannon Aviza, redshirt junior Kailee Coonan, a midfielder, junior forward Meghan Root and junior defender Jenna Tivnan were Syracuse representatives who earned the recognition.
Aviza, who recently graduated with a degree in information management and technology, and marketing management was a captain on Syracuse's 2020 squad. She was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll (3.0 grade point average) in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Aviza earned a place on Syracuse's Athletic Directors Honor Roll (3.0 grade point average) in seven of the eight semesters she was eligible for. She started all 59 games she played in at Syracuse.
Coonan was a captain along with Aviza in 2020. She missed the 2018 season due to injury, but was with the first unit in 42-of-39 matches with the Orange. Connan was on the Syracuse Athletic Directors Honor Roll in each of her eight semesters and was selected to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2019-20 and 2020-21. She graduated following the spring semester with a degree in health and exercise science.
In Root's three years with the program, she has started 35-of-42 matches. She has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2018-19 and 2019-20 and earned a spot on the Syracuse Athletic Directors Honor Roll in each of her first six semesters. Root is majoring in public relations in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Like her teammate Root, Tivnan will be back with the Orange squad this fall. She has started all 36 matches during her three-year tenure with the Syracuse squad. Tivnan has placed on the Athletic Directors Honor Roll in six semesters and has been an All-ACC Academic Honor Roll selection in 2018-19 and 2019-20. She is a sports management major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
