
#16 Orange Beat #12 Huskies on the Road

No. 16 Syracuse earned a 5-3 road win at #12 UConn on Sunday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. Quirine Comans had her first multi-goal game of her Orange career and Charlotte de Vries and SJ Quigley tallied their first goals of the season.
"I am really proud of them," head coach Ange Bradley said after the win. "We are good team, we are just finding ourselves and I am really proud of the way that they came out. They started strong and played a consistent game."Â
Eefke van den Nieuwenhof got Syracuse on the board early with a goal on the first Orange corner of the game. Florine van Boetzalaer and Quigley earned assists on the goal that put 'Cuse ahead 1-0 at the 4:24 mark.
UConn evened things up in first minute of the second quarter when Claire Jandewerth scored on a corner. Quigley scored with just over three minutes to play in the first half to put the Orange ahead 2-1 before the break.
Syracuse out shot UConn 13-3 in the first half and had a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners.
De Vries' first goal of the season came a minute and 42 seconds into the third period to extend the Orange lead to two goals and Comans' first of two goals made it 4-1 in the 44th minute of play.
Comans scored her second goal in the 55th minute to make it 5-1, Syracuse. The Huskies scored a pair of goals by the hands of Jessica Dembrowski to make it 5-3 just before the end of regulation.
Syracuse out shot the Huskies 25-11 and Louise Pert improved to 3-0 on the season in goal for the Orange.
'Cuse continues its five-game road swing next Friday, Sept. 17, at No. 3 Boston College at 5 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
