This Weekend in Syracuse Field Hockey: #14 Orange Host Kent State Saturday

The 14th-ranked Orange will continue their three-game homestand to being the 2021 season Saturday at 1 p.m. against Kent State at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ACCNX on the ESPN app. Admission is free for all regular season games at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Syracuse and Kent State will meet for the ninth time and first since 2014 on Saturday. The Orange are 6-2 all-time vs. Kent State and have won the last three matchups. Last time the two played, 'Cuse won 6-1 on the road. The Orange are 3-0 at home against the Golden Flashes and will host Kent State at J.S. Coyne Stadium for the first time since Sept. 16, 2012.
The Orange outscored its opponents 13-0 going 2-0 to start the season at home. Pleun Lammers received ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after scoring four goals and adding one assist in Syracuse's first weekend of the season. Lammers currently leads the nation in points per game (4.5) and goals per game (2.0). As a unit, Syracuse leads the nation in points per game (17.0), scoring average (6.5) goals per game (6.5) and scoring margin (6.5).
Syracuse's leading scorer the past two seasons, Charlotte De Vries, will be back on the field after helping the U.S. U-22 national team win bronze at the Junior Pan American Championship in Santiago, Chile last month. De Vries scored five goals and added an assist in four games for Team USA en route to being named Top Scorer of the tournament. Â Â
The Golden Flashes are 2-1 to start the season and posted an 11-3 record last year. Kent State is coming off a 3-1 win over #22 Ohio State. Saturday marks the first time the Golden Flashes have played back-to-back ranked opponents since September 21 and 22 in 2019 when they faced #8 Iowa and #9 Michigan just a day apart. Sophomore Jenna McCrudden and Katie Wuerstle lead the team with two goals apiece through the first three games.
Saturday's game is the last home game in September for the Orange. Syracuse will hit the road for five-straight games beginning next weekend with a road trip to #15 Rutgers Friday, September 10th and #6 UConn Sunday, September 12th.
