One last page in the regular season chapter in the 2022 Syracuse Field Hockey Book before the next chapter, the ACC Tournament, begins next week. The Orange head to North Carolina for a week's stay, leading off with No. 12 Wake Forest on Friday at 5 p.m. with the second-seed in the ACC Tournament up for grabs.
From the Start
- The final showdown of the regular season is here as the Orange head for Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest on Friday at 5 p.m., marking the first time since joining the league the Orange conclude the regular season with Wake Forest.
- Friday's tilt will be carried on ACC Network Extra live from Kentner Stadium with the second-seed in the ACC Tournament on the line.
- Syracuse will look to keep its momentum against the Demon Deacons, winning the last four meetings, including the last two in Winston-Salem.Â
- With a win on Friday, Syracuse would finish the ACC regular season with a 4-2 record, earning the number two seed in the ACC Tournament.Â
In the National Rankings
- Syracuse vaulted back into the top 10 this weekend, ranking ninth in the Octoer 25 Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll with 716 points. The orange knocked off two ranked opponents last week, No. 4 Louisville (3-2) and No. 19 Rutgers (4-3).
- Syracuse's opponent this week, Wake Forest moved up one spot from to 12th.
- North Carolina remained atop the poll this week with 1.099 points and 43 of the 44 first-place votes. Maryland was second with 1,007 points and the outstanding first-place nod. Penn State was third with 971 points, followed by No. 4 Northwestern (939 points) and Virginia rounding out the top five (876 points).
- Ten of the Orange's 18 opponents this season were listed among the top 25 teams: No. 1 North Carolina (L, 1-6), No. 5 Virginia (L, 0-3), No. 7 Princeton (L, 1-5), No. 8 Louisville (W, 3-2), No. 12 Wake Forest (Oct. 28), No. 19 James Madison (W, 2-1 OT), No. 21 Rutgers (W, 4-3), No. 22 Boston College (W, 3-0), No. 24 Cornell (W, 5-0), No. 25 Duke (W, 5-1).

- Any way you slice it, the Orange have put up serious points this year.
- Syracuse has tagged opponents for 60 goals, including a seven-goal outburst last weekend against No. 4 Louisville (3) and No. 19 Rutgers (4).
- Quirine Comans leads the Orange scoring efforts in both goals (14) and points (35) while Charlotte de Vries leads in assists (10) and is second in goals (11) and points (32).
- Comans is tied for 16th in program records with her 35 points, drawing even with five other players. Her 14 goals are tied for 17th in a single season. One more moves Comans into a four-way tie for 14th place, including de Vries' rookie campaign in 2019. Three goals wold move Comans' 2022 campaign into the top 10 for a single season.
- De Vries' 32 points are just behind that mark in 17th place for a single season. A balanced scored, de Vries' 11 assist this year are tied for the 15th-most in a single season by an Orange player. One more moves her to a tie with Leonie Geyer (2010) while two more helpers will tie her for 11th with three other players. Three assists and its a top-10 single season mark.

- Boasting one of the highest-powered offenses not only in the ACC but nationally, Syracuse has racked 60 goals entering the final weekend of the 2022 regular season.
- The Orange bring two tendencies to games: Strike quickly with 13 combined goals in the first quarter, and make adjustments.
- To date, Syracuse has scored well over half its total goals in the second half, putting in 38 tallies in the final 30 minutes.
- Syracuse is the only team in the ACC with at least 30 second-half goals. The Orange have been particularly potent in the third quarter, racking 20 goals after the break.
- The Orange have two of the top-five scoring quarters in the ACC, leading the league in the third (20), the fourth (18). UNC has the most goals in the second (19) and first (17). Wake has 16 first-quarter goals.

Williamson's #9 Jersey Officially Retired
- Former Syracuse field hockey standout Julie Williamson's #9 jersey was retired on Oct. 9 prior to the 2 p.m. match at J.S. Coyne Stadium against Cornell.
- Williamson is the first field hockey student-athlete to have a jersey retired.
- During her career (1991-94), Williamson helped lead Syracuse to its first-ever NCAA Tournament (1993) after capturing the BIG EAST title.Â
- Her Orange teams gathered a 52-20-7 mark in that span.
- She was the first three-time NFHCA All-American, a four-time All-Region pick. She graduated as the all-time points leader and still ranks seventh.
- Williamson was the first-ever Orange player selected to play for the USWNT, scoring against France for her first international goal on July 21, 1993.
