Back again at J.S. Coyne Stadium, No. 11 Syracuse hosts local rival Cornell at 2 p.m., while honoring one of the program's finest with a jersey retirement ceremony for Julie Williamson Sullivan.
From the Start
- Coming down the HOME stretch of the regular season, 'Cuse field hockey returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium for the fourth time in the last five games.
- The Orange take on the Big Red of Cornell for a 2 p.m. showdown in Central New York, the 37th meeting all-time between programs.
- During halftime of Sunday's game, Julie Williamson Sullivan will be honored as her number nine jersey is retired and enshrined at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
- Syracuse is coming off a 4-0 shutout against Stanford Wednesday night under the lights, as Charlotte de Vries had a hand in all four goals, scoring twice with a career-best three helpers.
Sam Swart's Very Busy Weekend
- Next weekend, Sam Swart will have Carolina on her mind.
- Syracuse field hockey heads to Chapel Hill for a Friday showdown against top-ranked North Carolina, a 4 p.m. game on ACC Network Extra.
- On Saturday, Swart will make her way to USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland for the Fall Classic, suiting up for USA Lacrosse and the women's national team.
- Swart will once again face North Carolina, though with a different stick in her hand, for the annual meeting between USA Lacrosse and the national champion from the previous spring.
- This won't be Swart's first crack with a national team; the graduate student won gold in the new lacrosse format, Sixes, this summer. Prior to arriving on the Hill, Swart played field hockey for the U19 team, under the guidance of none other than Syracuse head coach Ange Bradley.
You Look Familiar...
- With just an hour drive between Syracuse and Ithaca, the Orange have squared up with Cornell on plenty of occasions.Â
- Sunday will be the 37th meeting all-time between the programs, a series the Orange lead 32-3-1.
- The only other team Syracuse has faced more often is UConn, with 45 clashes between programs.
- Cornell is the most common nonconference opponent the Orange have in program history. Colgate is second with 34 meetings.
Climbing the Charts
- Wednesday night saw Charlotte de Vries scored the 37th goal of her Syracuse career, notching what stood as the game-winning goal in the 25th minute against Stanford.
- The goal moved de Vries into a three-way tie with eighth all-time in program history with Martina Loncarica and Heather Susek, both of whom repped the Orange from 2008-11.
- De Vries needs three more goals to join Lauren Brooks (2011-14) and Kristin Aronowicz (1999-02) for sixth all-time.
- De Vries racked five points against the Cardinal, bringing her career total to 88 (37g, 14), surpassing Shelley Magee's 85 points.
- De Vries needs one point to tie Heather Susek (37g, 15a) and Kelly Hambleton (34g, 21a) for 13th all-time at 89 points.

Williamson's #9 Jersey to Be Retired
- Former Syracuse field hockey standout Julie Williamson's #9 jersey will be retired on Oct. 9 prior to the 2 p.m. match at J.S. Coyne Stadium against Cornell.
- Williamson is the first field hockey student-athlete to have a jersey retired.
- During her career (1991-94), Williamson helped lead Syracuse to its first-ever NCAA Tournament (1993) after capturing the BIG EAST title.Â
- Her Orange teams gathered a 52-20-7 mark in that span.
- She was the first three-time NFHCA All-American, a four-time All-Region pick. She graduated as the all-time points leader and still ranks seventh.
- Williamson was the first-ever Orange player selected to play for the USWNT, scoring against France for her first international goal on July 21, 1993.
