A program record five Syracuse men's soccer student-athletes garnered United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Team honors. Forwards Levonte Johnson and Nathan Opoku earned All-South First Team honors, senior center back Christian Curti received All-South Second Team honors, while redshirt-senior goalkeeper Russell Shealy and junior midfielder Jeorgio Kocevski earned All-South Third Team honors.
Last season, Deandre Kerr was the only Syracuse men's soccer student-athlete to earn All-Region honors. Defender Miles Robinson was the last student-athlete to represent the Orange on the All-South First Team in 2016.Â
Johnson has established himself as one of college soccer's premier attacking threats. The Brampton, Ontario native leads the ACC in points with 26, scoring 10 goals and dishing out six assists. Johnson has also scored a national-high seven match-winning goals, two of them coming against Penn and Vermont in the NCAA Championships.
A first-year forward, Opoku has also found success in head coach Ian McIntyre's system, breaking out after transferring from Lindsey Wilson College in the summer of 2022. The Accra, Ghana native is second in the team in points with 24, scoring nine goals and registering six assists. Opoku also earned All-ACC First Team honors.
Curti, a second-year starter, has started in every match of Syracuse's run to the 2022 NCAA College Cup. The Canadian defender is also a versatile option for McIntyre and his staff, as Curti has played centerback, wingback and midfielder this season. The senior defender has contributed three assists this season as well on his way to third team All-ACC honors.
A goalkeeper from Cartersville, Georgia, Shealy has produced a career season in his last campaign with the Orange. The 2022 ACC Tournament MVP has recorded career-highs in saves (63), save percentage (.818) and goals against average (0.62). Shealy also received All-ACC Second Team honors for the first time in his career.
Kocevski is a staple of the Syracuse midfield, as the Liverpool, New York native has appeared in 20 matches this season. The third team All-ACC selection has scored career highs in points (13), goals (5) and assists (3) this season. Kocevski also earned ACC All-Tournament honors.Â
Syracuse heads to the College Cup for the first time since 2015 this Friday at 6 p.m. against BIG EAST champion Creighton. The Orange look to head to the national championship match for the first time in program history.Â
