The Orange had a promising first weekend of the racing season at the Pac-12 Invitational in Redwood City, Calif. Both crews earned wins over Stanford and Oregon State while and lost to Washington at Redwood Shores.Â
The No. 7 ranked Orange led defending Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Champion Washington deep into the 2,000-meter race on Friday morning but a late push by the No. 2 Huskies earned them the slim 1.4 second win. In the second varsity eight race, UW was again victorious over Syracuse clocking in at 5:44.1 while 'Cuse crossed the finish 5.1 seconds behind in 5:49.2.
In Friday's afternoon session, the Orange beat No. 8 Stanford by 8.2 seconds and the 2V8 cruised to a 15 second win over the Cardinal. Due to discrepancies in the officials start and finish times, the afternoon session's times were decided by finish margins.Â
On Sunday morning, Syracuse's V8 beat No. 18 Oregon State and finished in 5:42.84 to beat the Beavers by 16.3 seconds in the first race of the day. The 2V8 closed out the weekend for the Orange with a win finishing in 5:51.86.Â
Syracuse next races in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday, April 16 when the Orange go head-to-head with the 12th-ranked US Naval Academy and No. 13 Cornell for the Goes Trophy, marking the first time the cup will be contested since 2019.Â
