The Syracuse women's soccer team gathered to celebrate its 2021-22 season and to honor a special teammate at the program's banquet.
The Orange squad presented Graeclin "Bean" Russo with a #22 jersey, along with additional Syracuse items, at the event. Graeclin first became involved with the women's soccer team through Team IMPACT, a non-profit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with college athletic teams. Graeclin signed a "letter of intent" with Syracuse at an assembly at Reynolds Elementary School that was attended by the entire student body and staff in October 2019. She has been an important member of the Orange soccer program since.
She lives with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), a type of cancer that can damage tissue or cause lesions to form in one or more places in the body.
The Russo family lives in nearby Baldwinsville.
