Grace Gillard, a native of Bedford, England, and a member of her country's national team program, has signed a national letter of intent (NLI) and will enroll at Syracuse University.
Â
"We are so excited to be adding Grace to our Orange Soccer Family," said Syracuse Coach Nicky Thrasher Adams. "Grace has had tremendous success with the Youth National Team in England as well as her Arsenal Club Team.  She has proven to be a consistent staple on both her country and club's back line.  We were so impressed with Grace's professionalism, discipline and maturity, and love that she will be representing the Orange in the upcoming fall."
She became a part of England's national team with the Under-15 squad. Gillard made her debut as a team captain against Switzerland in 2019. She has accumulated six caps with England.
Â
Gillard has been a member of the Arsenal Women's Football Club for four years. A center back and team captain, Gillard has competed for coaches Elliot Allum and George Wells. She prepped at Arnold Academy and is currently enrolled at Harlington Upper School.
Â
Gillard is one of 10 newcomers on the Fall 2022 Syracuse roster. She joins fellow freshmen Alyssa Abramson, Rebekah Doolittle, Maya McDermott, Anna Rupert, Gianna Savella, Aleena Ulke and Shea Vanderbosch. Syracuse has also two transfer students – Emma Nolan, who previously attended Davidson, and Niagara transfer Florence Vaillancourt.

The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
