
Orange Unable to Rally in 5-0 Loss to Duke

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse could not come back from an early deficit in its 5-0 loss to Duke. Angel Jasso led the Orange at the plate going 2-for-4 on the day with a double and a single.Â
Syracuse falls to 20-19 overall, 3-14 ACC while Duke improves to 35-6 overall, 15-2 ACC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Devils started the scoring in the top of the first inning, pushing two runs across the board. Two of the Orange's four hits came in the bottom of the first inning. Jasso led off with a single to shortstop. The second hit of the inning came off the bat of Neli Casares-Maher when she nailed a line drive into left field. Despite advancing runners into scoring position, the Orange could not convert a run.Â
Duke's third run came unearned in the second inning to make the score 3-0. Both teams were quiet in the third and fourth innings, unable to add to the board. After coming into the circle in the second inning, Lindsey Hendrix was relieved by Kaia Oliver in the third inning after being hit in the leg by a line drive.Â
The lead extended to 4-0 in the top of the fourth following a sarcifice fly from Duke's Kamryn Jackson to score Claire Davidson from third. Kyla Morris attempted to advance from first to second on the throw but was thrown out by Tessa Galipeau at second base after cutting the ball from the outfield. Summer Clark came into the circle following the fourth run.Â
Duke's 10th hit of the game, a single through the left side scored the fifth and final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. The final score was 5-0.Â
