
Orange Upset #11 Duke

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse hands #11 Duke its first shutout of the season in a 1-0 win. Syracuse improves to 21-19 overall, 4-13 ACC while Duke falls to 35-7 overall 14-3 ACC.
Combined efforts from Ariana Adams, Lindsey Hendrix and Kaia Oliver in the circle shut out the best offense in the ACC.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams sent only three batters to the plate in the first inning. The Blue Devils strung together two hits and a walk to put runners in scoring position in the top of the second. Ariana Adams got the Orange out of the situation, giving up no runs.Â
The start of the Orange run came in the bottom of the third with a line drive up the middle off the bat of Paris Woods. She advanced to second on a wild pitch. An RBI single up the middle from Angel Jasso scored Paris Woods from second base to put the only run of the game on the board.Â
After coming into the circle in the third inning Lindsey Hendrix held the Duke offense for two innings before Kaia Oliver came to the mound. Oliver got Syracuse out of another second and third situation in the top of the fifth to hold the 1-0 lead.
The Blue Devils had another opportunity with runners on second and third in the top of the sixth inning. Oliver drew two pop flies and a strike out to hold Duke to no runs. The Orange defense produced three straight outs in the top of the seventh to end the game at 1-0.
OF NOTE
The Orange and Blue Devils will battle for the series win on Sunday, April 24 at 12:00 pm in the third and final game. The game will be broadcasted on the ACCNX.
