Orange Beat Colgate in Sunday Scrimmage
4/3/2022 10:00:00 AM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse men's rowing team's third varsity eight (3V8+) and fourth varsity eight (4V8+) placed first and second over Colgate's varsity eight in a preseason scrimmage Sunday morning. The Orange 3V8+ led from the start finishing the 2,000-meter race in 6:01.7.Â
"Today went really well," assistant coach Jason Elefant said. "We had classic central New York April conditions -- 35 degrees and snow. We're no strangers to that here in Syracuse, Colgate is no stranger to it either, so we had a really great scrimmage. The 2,000-meter race this morning went well. We had some good hard fought racing between all three crews."
The 4V8+ was neck-and-neck with Colgate as the two crews headed through the channel of Syracuse's home racecourse but the Orange passed by the Red Raiders in front of a home crowd lined up in front of the James A. Ten Eyck Boathouse and held off Colgate down the stretch to finish in second. Syracuse crossed the finish in 6:09.4, beating Colgate (6:10.9) by just over a second.Â
"We really got a lot out of this scrimmage," Elefant added. "We were really happy about Colgate making the trip up to do that. We are looking forward to starting the rest of our season now and getting to the meat of the schedule soon."
Official times (2,000-meter race):
Syracuse A – 6:01.7
Syracuse B – 6:09.4
Colgate – 6:10.9
