4/30/2022 10:35:00 AM | Men's Rowing
#5 Dartmouth edged #6 Syracuse to claim the Packard Cup Saturday morning at Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vt. The Big Green got off to a quick lead but the Orange worked their way to close the gap and with 500 meters to go nearly broke even with Dartmouth's bow but the Big Green was able to hold off crossing the finish in 5:40.0 with Syracuse crossed a second behind in 5:41.0.
Conditions on the water worsened for the 2V8 race, which began with a floating start 50 meters into the race. Similar to the varsity eight race, the Big Green jumped out to a solid start. 'Cuse continued to chip away as the race went on closing the gap to lose by a seat finishing in 5:39.2 while Dartmouth was first across in 5:38.5.
Due to the high wind conditions on the water, the 3V8 and 4V8 races were canceled for the rest of the day but Dartmouth and Syracuse will have a chance to race Sunday with the two teams lineup with Boston University on Sunday morning.
Racing begins Sunday morning at 8 am with the varsity eight race between #5 Dartmouth, #6 Syracuse and #14 Boston University. Syracuse and BU will race for the Conlan Cup for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Syracuse beat BU in the regular season in 2021 but the cup was not contested.
The 2V8 will start at 9:20 am followed by the 3V8 at 9:40 am and the 4V8 at 10 am.
