Syracuse gets its 2022 campaign underway when it hosts New Hampshire on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission is free.
The match starts a string of four consecutive home games for Syracuse. The Orange follow Thursday's encounter with pairings against Connecticut (Aug. 21), Lafayette (Aug. 25), and Siena (28).
THE SYRACUSE-NEW HAMPSHIRE SERIES:
The Orange and the Wildcats met for the first time a year ago. Syracuse emerged with a 2-0 road victory. Kylen Grant and Pauline Machtens tallied for the Orange and Lysianne Proulx earned the shutout in goal.
OPENING GAME SUCCESS
Syracuse owns a 14-8-4 in campaign-opening contests. The Orange defeated Fairleigh-Dickinson, 2-0, in last year's season starter.
ORANGE AT THE FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP
Syracuse has been preparing for the 2022 season without two key returning players in Sierra Giorgio and Pauline Machtens. The two sophomores have legitimate "notes from home," with both participating in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica. Giorgio is a goalkeeper with the Canadian squad while Machtens is a midfielder for Germany. Pool play in the event wrapped up Wednesday night. Canada and Germany were both eliminated and the two Orange performers are expected to return to Syracuse promptly.
FRESH FACES
Syracuse coach Nicky Thrasher Adams is fielding a roster that includes eight freshmen. The newcomers include defenders Rebekah Doolittle, Grace Gillard, and Aleena Ulke, midfielders Alyssa Abramson and Gianna Savella, forwards Maya McDermott and Anna Rupert, and goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch.
