
Field Hockey Begins 2022 in NFHCA Top Ten

Just days away from the start of the 2022 campaign, the Syracuse University field hockey program will begin the season ranked highly in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) released its preseason poll on Tuesday afternoon. The Orange, which was picked second in the ACC Predicted Order of Finish, garnered 758 points, including one first place vote, to rank 10th in the country.
Defending national champion Northwestern was favored in the preseason poll with 1,107 points and 26 first-place votes. North Carolina was second with 1,067 points and 14 top spot nods while Michigan (967) and Maryland (961) received three first-place votes apiece. Iowa rounded out the top five with 930 points.
This season, the Orange will face eight teams ranked in the top 25 of the preseason polls: No. 2 North Carolina (Oct. 14), No. 8 Rutgers (Oct. 23), No. 9 Louisville (Oct. 21), No. 12 Virginia (Sept. 23), No. 13 Princeton (Sept. 9), No. 14 Boston College (Sept. 30), No. 18 Duke (Sept. 16), No. 20 Wake Forest (Oct. 28).
The 10th-ranked Orange officially open the 2022 season with a pair of games in New Haven, Connecticut. Syracuse leads off with Sacred Heart on Friday, followed by a neutral-site match against Vermont. Both games will begin at 1 p.m. and will be held at Yale's Johnson Field.
