SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Syracuse men's soccer will play a high-profile contest against defending Big Ten champion Penn State on Sunday, Aug. 28 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The match kicks off at 6 p.m. and admission to the match is free.

'Cuse Update
Syracuse opened the season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Iona. The Orange outshot the Gaels 19-4 and recorded seven shots on target.
Forward Nathan Opoku scored a goal in his Syracuse debut. The transfer from Lindsey Wilson College opened the score in the 13th minute. Fellow newcomer Levonte Johnson registered the assist.
Sophomore forward Julius Rauch carried his preseason scoring form into the regular season. The German attacker doubled Syracuse's advantage in the 69th minute. Senior midfielder Amferny Sinclair and sophomore forward Francesco Pagano combined for the assist.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Russell Shealy secured the 10th clean sheet of his career. Shealy recorded two saves, both coming in the first half.
Scouting The Nittany Lions
Jeff Cook is in his fifth season as head coach of the Penn State men's soccer program.
The Nittany Lions' first match of 2022 ended in a draw with Rhode Island. Penn State opened the scoring with a Sean Bettenhausen goal in the 48th minute. Rhode Island equalized in the 87th minute with successful penalty kick goal.
Penn State won the Big Ten last season and were picked to finish first in the 2022 Big Ten Preseason poll. Junior forward Peter Mangione was selected to the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Series History
Sunday's match represents the 39th meeting all-time between Syracuse and Penn State. The Nittany Lions lead the series, 31-3-4.
The two squads last met in 2021 at Jeffery Stadium. Penn State won the match 3-0 behind goals from Peter Mangione, Pierre Kennedy, and Andrew Pivett.
