Kimoto and Kozyreva Advance to Quarterfinals at ITA Super Regionals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team had both Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva push through to the quarterfinal round at the ITA Northeast Super Regionals on Friday, hosted by Army. The Orange had five wins today in the singles event. Doubles play will begin tomorrow, Oct. 21.

The Orange won three of four matches in the singles round of 32. Kimoto started the success for 'Cuse, as she defeated Leopoldine Boisseau from Long Island University, 7-6, 6-0. Kozyreva followed up by edging her opponent, Anna Zhang (Columbia), in a match that went the distance, 6-0, 5-7, 7-6. Second seeded Kanapatskaya took down Danielle Hack (Amherst), 6-4, 6-4. Ines Fonte dropped her match to sixth seeded Neha Velaga (Princeton), 6-1, 6-0. Fonte went on to play Cornell's Michelle Ryndin in the consolation round, where she was edged 6-3, 7-5, [10-6].

In the singles round of 16, Kimoto and Kozyreva defeated their opponents and moved on to the quarterfinals. Kimoto had a commanding performance against Alexandra Benedetto (Brown), winning 6-1, 6-2. Kozyreva controlled her matchup as well, beating Victoria Zhao (Cornell) 6-1, 6-0. Kanapatskaya lost her second match of the day to Pheobe Peus (Brown), 7-6, 1-6, 6-4.
