CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior back Eefke van den Nieuwenhof was selected as this week ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its weekly winners Tuesday afternoon.
Van den Nieuwenhof, a senior co-captain this season, backed the Orange to a split weekend on the road at two top-15 opponents. She scored three goals across two games, including the game-winning penalty stroke in double overtime at No. 12 Boston College on Friday.
Two days later, van den Nieuwenhof scored twice at No. 14 Harvard, both game-tying goals. The Soest, Netherlander scored her first in the 14th minute with a hammer during a penalty corner. In the 53rd minute, van den Nieuwenhof again tied the game, converting her fourth penalty stroke of the season and second in as many games.
The first Orange player to win an ACC weekly honor this season, van den Nieuwenhof scored three goals on five shots on goal, taking seven total attempts on the weekend.
Louisville's Mia Duchars was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Van den Nieuwenhof and the No. 12 Orange continue a lengthy road swing this weekend. The Orange are on a bye week from ACC games as 'Cuse heads for Princeton on Sunday. Game time at Bedford Field is set for noon on ESPN+.
The two squads split last season's two meetings - Princeton won 5-1 in New Jersey before the Orange ended the Tigers' 2022 campaign with a 5-2 revenge win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
