Syracuse fought back to get within one in the final three minutes of the game but could not get the equalizer in a 4-3 loss to Lindenwood on Friday at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Forwards Kate Holmes and Sarah Thompson and defenseman Rachel Teslak scored goals and goaltender Amelia Van Vliet came into the game midway through the second period and recorded 14 saves in 30 minutes of play. Van Vliet made seven saves in the second period and seven in the third, including stops on multiple Lindenwood breakaways.

"Amelia was great tonight," Smith said. "She did exactly what she needed to do for us, kept us in and gave us a chance at the end."

Syracuse and Lindenwood will play the series finale on Saturday at 2 pm at Tennity Ice Pavilion. All fans are invited to join Syracuse alumni who are in Syracuse for Alumni Weekend at the game and to bring canned or dry food to donate to the United Way Food Donation Drive.

After Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the contest, Thompson tied the game with a power play goal. Kailey Langefels passed across the ice to Maya D'Arcy who fired a shot from the blue line and Thompson deflected the puck into the net with 7:31 remaining in the opening period for her third goal of the season. The Lions added a second goal four minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, Lindenwood opened a 3-1 lead with a power play goal at the 3:41 mark. Holmes responded three minutes later one-timing a puck on the crease into the back of the net. Tatum White and Rachel Teslak assisted on the play. Less than a minute later, the Lions regained a two goal-lead when Morgan Neitzke scored.

Teslak scored a power play goal with 2:29 remaining in the game to bring Syracuse within one, 4-3. Holmes and Langefels set up Teslak's shot from the blue line that hit the inside of the cross bar in the top left and went in. Teslak is Syracuse's leading scorer with 10 points, including five goals and five assists this season.
