Holmes Tallies a Goal and An Assist
11/18/2023 5:28:00 PM | Ice Hockey
Four different Syracuse skaters scored goals and senior goaltender Amelia Van Vliet recorded a career-high 27 saves in her first start of the season in a 4-4 overtime tie against Lindenwood on Saturday at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Forward Kate Holmes scored a goal and added an assist giving her four points in the series against the Lions. Syracuse opened a 4-1 lead through the first 42 minutes and then Lindenwood scored three consecutive goals to tie the game, 4-4, with 3:04 remaining in the third period. Syracuse outshot the Lions 6-3 in the overtime period.
Â
"We talked about playing clean in transition and playing with pace and I thought we did a good job with that in certain situations, especially in the first two periods," said head coach Britni Smith. "In the third we let it slip away, we got away from our game plan. We are a team that has not played with a lead a whole lot this season and it showed at the end. Â At this point it is finding ways to bury the puck. In the overtime we could have ended the game multiple times, but we just couldn't find the back of the net."
Â
Forward Haley Trudeau opened the scoring with a goal just more than 15 minutes into the first period. Holmes and Gabby Dougherty assisted on the play. After Lindenwood tied the game early in the second period, forward Heidi Knoll tallied her fourth goal of the season to give the Orange a 2-1 lead at the 6:06 mark. Defenseman Maya D'Arcy set up Knoll's goal. Senior Tatum White added to the Orange advantage with her second goal of the campaign with less than 10 minutes left in the second period on an assist from defenseman Rachel Teslak. In the third period, Holmes scored on an assist from defenseman Alexandria Weiss to give the Orange a 4-1 lead at the 1:11 mark.
Â
Syracuse will play #5 Clarkson on Tuesday at 5 pm at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Fans are encourage to wear purple in support of Syracuse's Hockey Fights Cancer game. The Orange and Golden Knights will faceoff again on Saturday in Potsdam.Â
