11/21/2023 9:57:00 PM | Ice Hockey
Senior Tatum White tallied a goal in her 100th career game in Syracuse's 4-1 loss to #5 Clarkson on 'Hockey Fights Cancer' Night at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The goal is White's third of the season and 15th of her career.
Â
"We knew we were going to have to battle for 60 minutes. Clarkson is a good team. I am very proud of the team and how we battled," said head coach Britni Smith. "That is something we talked about, having a complete 60. There are areas of our game that were maybe not so complete, but our battle, our compete and our grit were there all 60. In the first period we were able to put them on their heels. That is something we talked about, coming out fast in the first period. We played hard and we defended well. Overall, I am pretty proud of our 60 minutes."
Â
In the first period, Syracuse (3-11-2 overall, 0-5-1 College Hockey America) opened the scoring with a power play goal. Defenseman Alexandria Weiss fed forward Kate Holmes with a pass at the top of the left circle. Holmes fired a shot from the point and White deflected the puck into the net from the left side of the crease to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead at the 11:17 mark of the period.
Â
Clarkson (15-0-2, 5-0-1 ECAC Hockey) tied the game on a power play goal at the midway point of the second period and added two more goals before the second intermission. Anne Cherkowski tipped in the loose puck in front of the net after a sbot by Haley Winn. Brooke McQuigge set up the play with a pass from the right corner. Alexie Guay and Jenna Goodwin tallied the second and third goals for the Knights in the final three minutes of the period for the 3-1 lead. McQuigge added a fourth goal for Clarkson 48 seconds into the third period.
Â
Orange goaltender Allie Kelley recorded 35 saves, marking her 10th game with at least 30 saves this season.
