Orange Lose to #4 Colgate
12/5/2023 10:19:00 PM | Ice Hockey
Syracuse lost to #4 Colgate, 9-0, on Tuesday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Raiders opened up a 4-0 lead in the first period and added three in the second and two in the final frame.
Â
"We knew coming in they were going to be strong," said associate head coach Heather Farrell. "I thought we had a slow start, but then we started t have some strong shifts and started to build off of those shifts. Unfortunately for us when you give a team like that any time and space, they take advantage of your mistakes, so we dug a hole pretty quickly. Then we just could not catch back up. We will continue to work. We will continue to play our systems, continue to believe in each other and play hard for each other."
Â
The Orange(4-14-2 overall) successfully killed all three Colgate (14-2-1) power plays, increasing their season penalty kill percentage to .818, which ranks 21st nationally. Coming into the game Colgate led the nation in power play goals (24) and was tied for first in power play percentage (.400). Defensively, 11 different skaters contributed to Syracuse's 17 blocked shots.
Â
Forward Tatum White won a game-high 18 faceoffs to increase her career total to 666. She ranks sixth in Orange program history. Shiann Darkangelo is fifth with 727 wins in the circle.
Â
In the net, Allie Kelley recorded 43 saves in two periods and Amelia Van Vliet had 13 stops in the third frame. Kelley moved into the seventh spot on Syracuse's single-season saves record list. She has 603 in 19 games this season.
Â
Syracuse will return to the ice after the break to play at #4 Colgate on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 11:30 am.
