
11 Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Earn All-ACC Academic Team Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y – 11 Syracuse men's soccer student-athletes garnered All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team recognition, a new single-season high for the program. Student-Athletes must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, a 3.0 GPA in the last semester and play in at least 50% of all competitions to be eligible for the All-ACC Academic Team.
Amferny Sinclair, Colin Biros, Jackson Glenn, Camden Holbrook, Giona Leibold, Nathan Opoku, Julius Rauch, Abdi Salim and Curt Calov all earn the honor for a first time in their careers, while Noah Singelmann and Buster Sjoberg are selected to the All-ACC Academic Team for a second time.
Sjoberg, a senior defender from Uppsala Sweden, started in 17 matches in the defense this season. The veteran will return to Syracuse for the 2023 season following his selection by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. Sjoberg is majoring in Finance at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.
A two-time team captain, Singelmann has 75 appearances to his name in four seasons with the Orange. The German wingback led 'Cuse in points in the 2020 season with 10 (three goals, four assists), and appeared in 24 matches on the way to the 2022 NCAA National Championship. A native of Rheinstetten, Germany, Singelmann is majoring in Economics at the College of Arts & Sciences.
The hero of the 2022 NCAA College Cup Final penalty shootout, Amferny Sinclair served as a captain during the tremendous 2022 season. The Costa Rican midfielder finished his Syracuse career with 64 appearances. Sinclair was selected in the second round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake and majors in Economics at the College of Arts & Sciences.
Biros appeared in every match of the 2022 season with 12 starts, scoring two goals and logging one assist. The Jackson, Ohio native majors in Communications and Rhetorical Studies at the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Salim was a key component of head coach Ian McIntyre's defense, starting every match of the postseason. Salim was taken in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft by Orlando City S.C. He is majoring in Religion at the College of Arts & Sciences.
Opoku earns All-ACC Academic Team status in his lone season with the Orange. The Accra, Ghana native scored 11 goals and contributed eight assists on his way to United Soccer Coaches' All-American status and All-ACC First Team honors. Opoku is heading to Europe, signing a contract with Premier League club Leicester City. He is majoring in Communications and Rhetorical Studies at the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
The winner of the 2022 NCAA College Cup Elite 90 Award, a trophy awarded to the student-athlete with the highest-grade point average at this year's College Cup, Rauch earns All-ACC Academic status for a first time in his career. Majoring in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Rauch logged 18 appearances and scored two goals this season.
A sophomore wingback, Leibold garners All-ACC Academic Team honors for a first time. The Weisbaden, Germany native scored five goals and logged two assists in his 22 matches this season, including a match-winning goal against Cornell in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. Leibold is studying at the College of Arts and Sciences.
Glenn, a junior reserve defender from Skyesville, Maryland, appeared in 13 matches this season. He provided his first career assist this season against Bucknell in a 2-1 victory. Glenn is majoring in Finance at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.
A senior from Cary, N.C., Holbrook recorded 20 appearances and two assists during the 2022 season. He logged minutes in every NCAA and ACC Tournament match. Holbrook is majoring in Policy Studies at the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs.
