
Syracuse Travel To Charleston For Lowcountry Classic

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball's 2023 campaign continues at the Lowcountry Classic in Charleston, South Carolina from Friday, Feb. 24 – Sunday, Feb. 26.
Tournament play begins with a Friday doubleheader, opening with Robert Morris at 12:30 p.m. and finishing the first day against tournament host College of Charleston at 5:30 p.m. The Orange then open day two of the Lowcountry Classic against Rutgers at 10 a.m. followed by a rematch against Robert Morris at 12:30 p.m. Syracuse's time in Charleston finishes up against the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m.

- Syracuse brings a 3-4 record to the Lowcountry Classic, going 1-3 at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- Three straight loses were followed by a 11-4 win against Iowa.
- Syracuse has not committed an error in three-straight games.
- Sophomore infielder Kelly Breen drove in a career-high six runs against Iowa in the 11-4 win.
- Olivia Pess and Geana Torres made their first starts of the season, while Madelyn Lopez and Trinity Nichols logged the first starts of their careers.
- Four Orange are batting over .300 while meeting the 2 at-bats per game and 75% games played minimum, as sophomore left fielder Angie Ramos is leading the way with a .385 batting average.
- Syracuse was shutout in back-to-back games for the first time since 2019.
- 'Cuse has a 5.21 team earned run average heading into the Low Country Classic.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
- Charleston holds a 2-6 record, recently splitting a doubleheader against Canisius. The Cougars have a team batting average of .258.
- Rutgers brings an 8-2 record to Charleston, its best start to a season since 1980. Junior shortstop Kyleigh Sand is a back-to-back winner of the Big Ten Player of the Week award, as she is batting .600 across 30 plate appearances.
- Robert Morris is 2-2 in the early stages of the 2023 campaign, beating Austin Peay and Gardner-Webb at the Runnin' Bulldog Classic. The Colonials have scored 12 runs and allowed 14.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Syracuse and College of Charleston meet for a sixth time, as Syracuse leads the all-time series, 4-1. The two programs last met in 2021, with Syracuse picking up the 4-2 victory with a two-run homer from Neli Casares-Maher in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Scarlet Knights and Orange faceoff on the diamond for the 33rd and 34th times at the Lowcountry Classic. Syracuse holds the advantage in the series, 24-7-1, as 'Cuse took down Rutgers twice in 2020.
