
Orange Lose Two Games Against Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – Syracuse softball started Atlantic Coast Conference play with two losses against No. 4 Clemson. Two late runs made the difference in Syracuse's 4-1 loss against the hosts. In the second leg of the doubleheader, The Tigers used a strong hitting performance to secure the win, 8-0.
The Orange combined for seven hits across both games. Junior left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix started the first game, while freshman right-handed pitcher Jackie Pengel started in the second game. Junior outfielder Angel Jasso logged two hits in the first game, while freshman outfielder Madelyn Lopez recorded two hits in the second game.
GAME ONE:
The Syracuse (6-8, 0-2 ACC) and Clemson (18-1, 2-0) pitching staffs shined in the opening game of the doubleheader. Hendrix tossed 2.1 innings, striking out one batter while allowing two runs on three hits. Freshman Madison Knight contributed 2.1 relief innings, preventing the Tigers from getting a hit. Clemson starting pitcher Valerie Cagle threw a complete game, allowing one run with eight strikeouts.
After two scoreless innings, Clemson jumped to a lead with back-to-back home runs in the top of the third. Maddie Moore scored the first run with a solo home run to center field. Cagle doubled the Tiger's lead with another homer to deep center, 2-0.
Syracuse cut into Clemson's advantage in the top of the sixth inning. After Jasso reached safely on an error, Kelly Breen hit a single, trimming the Tiger's lead to one, 2-1.
In the following frame, Clemson's bats produced insurance runs. With Kaia Oliver on the mound, Alia Logoleo and Aby Vieira logged consecutive singles. Infielder Arielle Oda laced a triple to left center, bringing in both base runners, 4-1.
The Orange scored one run on three hits. The Orange did not commit an error for a sixth time this season.
GAME TWO:
The Tiger bats kept producing in the second game of the doubleheader. Clemson brought home three runs in the bottom of the first. With two runners on and two outs, Logoleo drove a double to right field, clearing the bases, 2-0. In the next at-bat, Oda hit a ball past Breen for the third run of the game, 3-0.
Logoleo continued to find success at the plate in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, the shortstop drove in two runs with a single, 5-0.
In the following inning, Clemson manufactured three more runs. Outfielder McKenzie Clark hit a triple, brining in one run and scoring on a fielding error, 7-0. A single from Cagle recorded the eighth run of the game, 8-0.
Syracuse registered four hits, as Clemson starting pitcher Millie Thompson threw all five innings, striking out three batters.
