Syracuse Hits The Road For Doubleheader At UAlbany

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a five game homestand, Syracuse softball is back on the road, heading to UAlbany for a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 12, with both games scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
ORANGE UPDATE:
The Orange return to ACC play with a three-game set at North Carolina. The series begins in Chapel Hill on Friday, Apr. 11 at 6 p.m. The first two games of the series will be streaming on ACCNX, while Sunday's series finale will televised nationally on ACC Network at 2 p.m.

ORANGE UPDATE:
- Syracuse won its first Atlantic Coast Conference series of the season this past weekend, taking two-out-of-three games against NC State.
- The Orange won game one, 4-2, as strong hitting performances from outfielder Madelyn Lopez and infielder Kelly Breen pushed Syracuse past the Wolfpack.
- In the 3-2 game two loss, a late Syracuse rally fell just short, as three home runs from three different NC State batters made the difference in the game.
- Freshman pitcher Madison Knight threw the 11th no-hitter in program history against NC State in the series finale 8-0 run-rule triumph. Lopez and Breen both recorded two-run home runs in the second inning.
- 'Cuse scored 15 runs on 24 hits over the three games, both highs in ACC play this year.
- The Orange are the youngest team in the conference, as the 10 freshmen are the most on a roster in the ACC.
- Underclassmen account for 68 percent of at-bats, 69 percent of hits, 67 percent of runs scored and 68 percent of runs driven in.
- Head coach Shannon Doepking's squad is one of the stronger defensive sides in the ACC, as the Orange rank fifth in fielding percentage (.967) and fourth in fewest errors committed (27).
- Lopez continues to star in her first season "On the Hill", as the freshman from Montgomery, Texas leads Syracuse in batting average (.348), slugging percentage (.515), on-base percentage (.430) and total bases (34).
- Breen is the primary run producer for the Orange, leading the squad in runs driven in (13) and home runs (3).
- Knight made history against the Wolfpack over the weekend, recording the 11th no-hitter in school history and the first since Alexa Romero no-hit Virginia in 2018.
- Knight joins Tara DiMaggio, Jenna Caira and current assistant coach Sydney O'Hara as Orange freshman to record no-hitters.
- Across the five-inning triumph, Knight allowed just three base runners, walking two hitters and hitting one batter in the third inning. Knight also tied her career high in strikeouts with seven.
- In her two starts against the Wolfpack, Knight logged 11 innings of work, striking out 14 batters while allowing one run on three hits.
- UAlbany sits at 12-12 heading into Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader, holding a 4-3 record in America East conference play.
- Over the weekend, the Great Danes lost a series against Binghamton, losing 3-2 in the series deciding finale on Sunday.
- 2022 America East Player of the Year Petty Morgan is excelling in her junior year campaign, as the Milford, Delaware native leads the team in batting average (.397), home runs (4), runs batted in (20) and slugging percentage (.628).
- In the circle, Wendi Hammond leads the team in earned run average (2.99), strikeouts (44) and innings pitched (89.0). Hammond leads the America East in complete games with 10.
- Head coach Chris Cannata is in her 29th season at the helm of Great Danes softball. The five-time America East Coach of the Year holds an 819-449-1 record.
- Syracuse and UAlbany will meet on the softball diamond for the second and third times on Wednesday.
- The two programs first met in 2021, as the Orange beat the Great Danes, 10-6.
- Multi-hit performances from Angel Jasso and Paris Woods lifted Syracuse past UAlbany in the first game in the series.
