Michaela Walsh, a member the women's soccer team, is one of 12 Syracuse seniors named as 2023 University Scholars. It is the highest undergraduate honor the University bestows on students.
Honorees are selected by the Syracuse University Scholars Selection Committee, which is made up of faculty. The criteria used included coursework and academic achievement, independent research and creative work, evidence of intellectual growth or innovation in their disciplinary field, a personal statement and faculty letters of recommendation.
Walsh plans on graduating this spring with a dual major -- finance, from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and public relations, in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
A goalkeeper on the Orange women's soccer team, Walsh posted a 1-0-1 record, a 1.32 goals-against-average, and a .750 save percentage last fall. Walsh has earned a spot on the Syracuse University Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her seven completed semesters (3.0-or-better grade-point-average). She has also earned a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll in her first three seasons at Syracuse. Walsh is a three-year member of Syracuse's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
After receiving her degree, Walsh will be employed in the Finance Management Program of GE Gas Power.
Walsh was a high honors graduate and two-time soccer most valuable player at Mount St. Mary Academy (N.J.). She is from Florham Park, N.J.
